The first AG catalog I got was from 1992, when they still had all the outfits for girls to dress like their dolls. I think at that time they had one outfit from every book, and then the nightgowns. I had forgotten about this one until I saw the website it's listed on. Thanks for the pic!

So did AG basically get all their outfit ideas from the Museum?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Although I'm sure they did get some of them, the museum also has a bunch of the for girls AG outfits hanging.

This is not a historical outfit, per-say. It is cataloged as "Red, silver and blue satin acetate girl's patriotic dance costume, American Girl, 1989-1991" not as for Molly's time period.

The other AG items are tagged the same way. For example: "White cotton middy-style dress, 2-piece, American Girl, 1989-1991"

I imagine they got a good amount of ideas from the museum, but also Ms. Rowland is a huge benefactor of the museum, so it is possible that many of the early AG inspiration items were donated to the museum after the idea was taken.

Yeah, I believe that's the tap dancing dress that they used to sell of Molly's for girls. This one:

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yep!!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No, but they do say on the description page, "Part of the American Girls clothing line, this costume was inspired by the doll, "Molly McIntire," whose stories take place in 1944." All of the outfits say this and I think all of them are located in both the 1980s and 1990s sections, but also in the section of the girls' time period.

I wonder why they say all say 1989-1991, most of these were being sold well past 1991.

What always struck me as weird was that, with this outfit and the rain slicker, there's 2 dress like Molly outfits for her Changes book.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The description pages don't load for me- I just get an error message, so that's why I missed it. But my point was that inspiration from these outfits weren't taken from the museum- the outfits were given to the museum by AG.

I wonder why they say all say 1989-1991, most of these were being sold well past 1991.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Just a guess, but maybe they were donated in 1991?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Probably because the Miss Victory dress is going to be more appealing than the Slicker?

Kirsten kind of has two outfits too. She has the hand knit woolens- which are her version of a coat, but then she also has the dress/blouse. Most of the girls only have the coat.
